The first thing we do in this life is cry. Torn from the warmth and comfort of our mother’s womb, we are thrust into the cold and brilliant unknown.
The world is still cold and brilliant. We still shiver, and shield our eyes. Life will never cease to overwhelm us. We wouldn’t want it to. But we have to cry. We have to scream. We have to express our most innate self.
Childbirth isn’t limited to first moments of light. We are newborns from our first moment to our last. All of life is an overwhelming birth. We don’t stop being born until we die. So the most natural thing we can do is cry.
